Connect 2007 is co-produced by the Malmö Academy of Music and Ars Nova, an attempt at merging experimental artistic practice and research. We hereby wish to thank all partners for making this event in the cities of Malmö and Lund happen!
In the present day, Western culture is in a state of transition, not only in the form of new technologies of information and communication, but also as migratory phenomena are changing our concept of identity and our relationship with territory. Migratory phenomena make it possible to meet "the other" - strange, different - which causes, in the words of Sarat Maharaj, "the binary opposition between the foreign and familiar to break". Also the art practices in themselves are migrating, moving closer to each other and creating yet new sub cultures of artistic meaning and knowledge. Hence, an experimental, practice based approach at constructing knowledge, concerned with the ethics of art practice and the construction of meaning is central to the event. Lab sessions, lectures and performances are all open to the public, bringing to the two cities a great variety of artistic expression; ranging from the world music of virtuoso percussion soloist Trilok Gurtu, via Rebecca Saunder's sound installation Chroma VII with Ensemble Ars Nova, to electronic music with FAP, Natasha Barrett, Sten Sandell and Herman Müntzing, sound artist Mattias Kristersson and screenings of video art.
